EcoSensing and Modeling

The EcoSensing and Modeling Group studies how climate variability and human activities reshape ecosystems and the food, water, and land resources they sustain. Our research spans land-use and land-cover change, agricultural and flash drought, land and water management, and the food–water–energy nexus, examining how these processes affect ecosystem function, resource availability, and the resilience of the communities and landscapes that depend on them. We integrate multisource data — satellite and UAS remote sensing, eddy covariance, and field observations — with ecological and hydrological models and advanced geospatial analytics, including spatiotemporal modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Our goal is to advance drought early warning, resource security, and climate resilience in support of the sustainable, adaptive management of coupled human–natural systems.
