Potential students, postdocs, and visiting scholars

Potential undergraduate students

I work with several undergraduate students regularly and have the funding support to one or two undergraduate students during summer for field work. I am always open to work with undergraduate students who are motivated by the potential of geospatial technologies in ecosystem and environment studies. Undergraduate students can have their own specific topics to work on or talk to me to decide a potential topic. Your time will often be compensated if you work on the topic I assign. More information about undergraduate research opportunities at OSU can be found following the link below.

Information for prospective graduate students

Getting a graduate degree is not easy. It takes a lot of time and hard work. So you should ask yourself why you want a graduate degree and how it is going to help you with your career goals. If you are not sure, then you need to think about it. You will need to be motivated and passionate to get a graduate degree as there are more obstacles than you have had in your undergraduate.

Advising a graduate student is also time-consuming. I work closely with my graduate students with weekly meeting and frequent email exchanges to help them solve different issues. I try my best to provide students the opportunities to grow and give them the freedom to work on relevant projects. I always ask my students to have a career goal in mind to stay oriented.

When it comes to data analysis and writing, I work with students very closely in their first few projects and push them to cultivate the skills and habits to become independent. Ultimately, students will become experts in their fields through the trainings in the graduate degree.

The Department of Geography offers teaching assistantship regularly. More information can be found in the following link. https://cas.okstate.edu/department_of_geography/assistantships.html. Prospective students that interested working with me are supposed to include a statement about how their interests fit into my research agenda, when contacting me. I also encourage my graduate students to apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

* I am not actively seeking graduate students until Fall 2024.

Postdocs and visiting scholars

I am happy to work with postdocs and visiting scholars who are interested in my research. We have office space and many remote sensing relevant instruments (e.g., UAV, spectroradiometer, strong PC) to conduct remote sensing relevant research projects. Available postdoc positions will be posted here if there is any.
