GEOG 2344 Digital Tools for Environmental Exploration
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts of environmental problem solving through the use of digital geographic technologies that have emerged in recent years. These technologies include the Global Positioning System (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), and satellite remote sensing as well as mainstream computer mapping technologies like Google Earth. Additionally the course introduces students to the emerging use of social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, to collect environmental data and perform scientific research.
This is a four credit course with both lectures and labs, offered every Spring and Fall.
GEOG 5343 Advanced GIS: Resource Management Applications
The objectives of this advanced GIS course are to teach students to make decisions for natural resource management issues by creating, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data. Students will develop critical knowledge and skills to solve spatial problems in resource management applications through lectures, labs, and projects. Specific topics included are geodatabase, site suitability analysis, pixel- and object-based image classification, Google Earth Engine, Lidar, and ArcGIS StoryMaps. By the end of the course, it is expected that student will learn to incorporate best practices and become a better GIS analyst.
This is a three credit course with both lectures and labs, offered every Spring.
